10 Most Amazing Space Discoveries Made by Humans

0

This universe is full of mysteries and enigmas. The scientists and researchers are always into discovering the hidden secrets of this universe. These hidden secrets of the universe are a great source of fascination for both the researchers and the common people. That’s why there are so many movies and novels describing different scenarios related to space. Space exploration has helped humans to amazing things in space. Some of the most amazing space discoveries are listed below:

  1. Exoplanets

The planets that orbit the stars other than the Sun outside our Solar System are known as Exoplanets. Before the discovery of these planets, people used to believe that only our Solar System consisted of the planets orbiting around the sun. With time, people started to accept the heliocentric model of the Earth. However, it took years before the astronomers officially announced the discovery of the 1st exoplanet outside the Solar System in 1992. Later on, the discovery of the exoplanets opened up the pathway for further space exploration. It also triggered the people’s interest in discovering the universe beyond the solar system.

2. Stars

The humans have been using stars for navigation and timekeeping for millions of years. Although people in past were not aware of the exact distance of the stars from the Earth and their chemical composition, they understood the correlation between the stars and the direction very well. This was one of the space discoveries that helped adventurers reach new places. It also proved to be very helpful in navigating through the seas and oceans when no other visible landmarks were available nearby.

3. Black Holes

Black holes are another hidden mystery of the universe. They have been discovered recently. Still, the scientists are not fully aware of the nature, composition, and characteristics of these black holes. These black holes possess a very high gravitational pull that occurs after the death of a star. Their gravitational pull is so high that even the sunlight can’t escape. That’s why they appear black in color.

Some of the scientists suggest that the black holes could be the openings to some new dimensions of the universe. However, some more technology is needed to prove this claim. Since the black holes don’t emit or reflect light, so they are not visible to naked eye. Their presence is discovered as the objects around them react to their very high gravitational pull.

4. Galaxies

Before the scientists were able to discover the galaxies other than the Milky Way galaxy, we had no idea of how the universe was organized. When they were able to identify other objects in space, they ventured to explore it further. They found out that the universe is much vast than they previously thought. Moreover, there are a number of galaxies with their own composition besides the Milky Way galaxy. The discovery of millions of galaxies in the universe has given momentum to the theory that there may be life existing on other planets besides the Earth.
